Totally Migrating Geese

OPTIONAL: Materials fee: $60 for pre–sewn strata of batik fabrics. Or use your own fabrics and sew before coming to class.

Inventive, bias friendly, tubular strip–piecing process makes rows of Flying Geese any size without paper, templates or waste. Combine rows to make a variety of unique patterns. Rita guides you through her design process to work in colour–ways to build patterns and 'geese' quilt components for a small quilt. Methods for sizing and manipulating geese will be covered in this project–oriented class. Simple formula and technique is a cross between Seminole and Bargello with a unique twist.

Free–motion Background Fillers & Textures

Skill level: Intermediate to advanced

A technique class to expand your free motion quilting skills. Are you free–motion quilting already and need some new inspiration to take you further? Deborah will inspire you with many new textures and filler designs for any style of quilt. You will quilt spirals, shells, water waves, joined leaves and flowers, pebbles, thatching, flames, Baptist fans and many more shapes – all with a new twist. Micro–fillers will also be explored. Free–motion Machine Quilting with Trapunto

Tutor: Philippa Naylor

Skill level: Confident beginner and all levels beyond

Materials fee: $7 for patterns and detailed colour photocopied instructions

Learn how easy trapunto (stuffed quilting) can be. It's a fabulous technique for adding sculptural dimension to your work. Begin with a discussion of personal material and equipment preferences, then gain an insight into original and distinctive quilting patterns.
