Laughing Leaves
Tutor: Frieda Anderson
Skill level: All
No machine work
Materials fee: $26 (includes 14 different
colours of Frieda’s hand dyed fabrics)

This is a design and fusing class where students take inspiration from Frieda’s project. Frieda will demonstrate techniques then you will proceed to make your own version. Using decorative rotary blades and hand dyed fabric, students will create a one of a kind leaf  design quilt. Frieda will show you fun ways to create strip units, leaves and stems, to achieve your woodland wonder. Frieda will supply decorative rotary blades to use in class.

Quilting with Stencils (Free Motion)
Tutor: Deborah Louie
Skill level: Beginner to intermediate
Materials fee: $5 for extensive notes
in a professionally printed booklet

This class will examine the unlimited possibilities of using a stencil on quilts. You will learn to stay on the line confidently then free arm other shapes to create your own design. Explore changing the patterns and using them for sashes, blocks, corners and borders. You will never look at a stencil the same way again; they can make a stunning effect on your quilts. Also have fun twin needle free motion quilting. This is an interesting day and will give the quilter unlimited pattern ideas when free motion quilting.

Strata Various
Tutor: Brenda Gael Smith
Skill level: All
Make beautiful music in fabric and colour. First create your unique strata in your favourite colours. Then mix it up with cutting, slashing, insertions and other
deconstruction and improvisational
contemprary techniques. Each student will make a small quilt top that can be used as a wall hanging or an appliqué background.
Pinless curved piecing techniques will also be covered.

Floral Arrangement
Tutor: Sue Benner
Skill level: All
Machine work optional

Beautiful flowers, concentric patterns, radial symmetry, block design, fusibles, using silks and sheers, and lots of fun are all
included in this class. Learn Sue’s layered technique for cutting, assembling, and arranging flowers as used in her Flower Series art quilts. This class will give you the opportunity to use gorgeous fabrics and expansive colour—plus, this construction method can be applied to other designs. Create a 16” x 16” to 24” x 24” art quilt with surprising complexity.

Exploring Appliqué
Tutor: Eileen Campbell
Skill level: All
Materials fee: $20. Includes iron-on Tearaway, heat-away (Thermoglaze), metallic foil, Angelina fibre, Gossamer fuse/
Misty fuse, tassel template, patterns and quilting design. The tutor will also supply sprays, stencils, crayons, etc which can be used in class.

Spend two days exploring some of the many possibilities (including 3D and padded work) for appliquéd trees, flowers and creatures. Add to that, ideas for embellishing the appliqués and backgrounds with foils, sprays, stencils and much more, including quilting designs. Extra techniques include stitching ‘across space’ to create flowers, using real flowers and machine made tassels.

Yin & Yang
Tutor: Susanne Cody
Skill level: Intermediate. Some previous appliqué experience is advisable
No machine work
Materials fee: $20 for pattern.
$5 optional for colour quilt picture if desired.

The appliqué plate is a stylised version of a willow pattern. The appliqué is free flowing, fun and easy to achieve. The wall hanging
is predominantly appliqué with some embroidery on the plate. Learn techniques including covering template shapes, easy bias stems and using Roxanne’s Glue Baste lt. Students will achieve a clear knowledge
of Sue’s appliqué method and will have a sense of confidence in colour choice and fabric selection.

Confident Colour
Tutor: Rosalie Dace
Skill level: All
Colour is the most striking feature of any quilt. Learn to use it fearlessly and discover how to put life back into your work.
After discussion of different aspects of colour, and a close study of the work of selected artists, students will experiment with small studies, before making a larger piece. We will consider colour combinations,
contrasts, moods, value, and intensity; limiting colour, unusual juxtapositions and the role of neutrals to sharpen sensitivity.

Garden Trellis

This is a project and technique workshop.

Have you ever wanted a garden that didn’t need watering, fertilising, pruning or mulching? Well this is the one for you. Stitch your garden trellis and then make tiles to hang on the trellis in numerous configurations. Techniques covered include broderie perse, dimensional leaves, appliqué, painted fusibles, couching, soluble thread work, texturisation with free motion quilting and embellishing.

Summer Joy
Tutor: Pam Furniss
Skill level: All
No machine work (parts of the quilt are machine pieced later)

A fun and easy project for lovers of hand appliqué or those who wish to learn. Stitch these easy shapes to create eight pretty
blocks. Appliqué techniques are taught using an easy and accurate way with freezer paper. Vines are made using a quick and no fuss method that gives a professional finish (fusible bias maker and tape). Sharp points, smooth curves, round circles and invisible stitches are all easily achieved. Patterns supplied by tutor.

Light Up Your Landscape
Tutor: Gloria Loughman
Skill level: All • Materials fee: $5 optional for patterns.
Fusing small squares, rectangles or diamonds of fabric, students will build up a landscape background that is dramatic and visually appealing. Design principles including perspective and focal point will be outlined and a variety of colour schemes will be displayed and discussed. Participants will then design their own wall hanging working from a photo, sketch or picture. Fusing, invisible machine appliqué, free motionbstitching and quilting techniques will be included. Glitzy Quilt

In this fun textile art class create a quilt from the base up by dyeing fabric and plastic in the microwave, then adding sheer layers, paint, beads and 3D paint to make a work of art. You will learn dyeing methods and how to use paint, sheers and plastic in your work.

New York Beauty/ Mariner’s Compass
Tutor: Lessa Siegele
Skill level: All
Lessa will teach both these designs in this
class. You will need to choose beforehand
as the designs have different requirements.
Mariner’s Compass: 16 or 32
points: Have you always wanted to make
a Mariner’s Compass Block but been put off
by those fine points? Then join this class
and learn the paper foundation method.
The compass can be made with either 16 or 32 points and patterns will be supplied to
create a flying geese border circle.

New York Beauty: Foundation piecing is used in this class to achieve accurate points for this traditional pattern. It can be made using just two fabrics, such as blue and white, as many of the old quilts were done or you can give a more contemporary look by using a variety of fabrics. Patterns will be provided for 5, 7 and 9 points in different size blocks.
